Monday 12th October

Dear All

Thanks so much for the fantastic visit on Monday.  I was really impressed with the children's understanding of democracy and their thoughtful questions.

Some of the football team raised the issue of missing goal posts in Millfields Park. I have raised this issue with Ian Holland the head of Parks and his response is below.

Cllr Gordon

Thank you for your e-mail regarding the provision of goal posts on Millfields.

I am not clear who the children spoke to concerning the goal posts, but I can confirm they were actually removed in June to allow for the renovation of the goal mouths as there had been excessive wear due to overuse. Unfortunately this work has taken longer than anticipated due to the level of compaction and issues with germination / grass growth.

The Parks Team will inspect the area this week to review progress, and subject to sufficient grass growth having taken place, the pitches should be available again by the end of the month. In the interim (and to protect the goalmouths from overuse in the future) it is worth noting that North Marsh offers extensive pitch provision and is approximately five minutes’ walk from Millfields.

Regards

Ian Holland

The children also raised the issue of Fireworks in the Park. I have raised this with the head of Community Safety, Peter Snow and received this response.

Good Afternoon Margaret,

I was Night Duty over the weekend --Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday .We didn’t receive any calls. Got back in today after being off for my weekend ( Monday and Tuesday.) Checked with the Police and they did receive a call at about 8-00p.m. re fireworks.

Police attended shortly after the call was received, but it was all over by then and no trace of any firework throwers or users. I think that with the approach of Halloween and November 5th we are likely to get more calls of this nature.

We shall be patrolling with the Police on a couple of specific days probably 31st October and 5th November

Best wishes,

Peter

I would be happy to arrange for the children from the school council to visit the Town Hall early next year if that was of interest.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to assist.

KInd Regards
