There was huge excitement across the school as Democracy Week 2018 kicked off with a bang! Across the school, fierce debates occured as MC's were decided. Indeed, in Portsmouth class, the decision was so close that it went to a blind whole class vote! Initial debate subjects ranged from whether we should sell ice cream in school to the argument that rich people should give more to charity!

The Y6 childen were kept very busy helping teachers in class. Additionally, they created four teams which played a vital part in ensuring that democracy week was successful: the writers, the reporters, the pollsters and the spin doctors. We were lucky enough to have De Beauvoir councillor Polly Billington provide some invaluble training as to what their roles would entail.

Despite Hollywood actors commandeering our initial choice of hustings venue, the Round Chapel, we were able to improvise. After a thrilling march through Hackney, the hustings took place in our very own back playground.

The day of the final annoncement was tense; it was nerve racking, but finally the announcement was made! Special guest Philip Glanville, Mayor Of Hackney, proudly proclaimed the Sky HighBlues as the winning party and Kit Crane prime minister and Annie Cherkoff deputy prime minister.
